Exploring the Links Between Dream Experience, Nightmares, Sleep-Related Disturbances, and Subjective Well-Being

The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between subjective experience dreams, anxiety, and depressive symptoms. Specifically, aimed explore whether including how often dreams are remembered, presence nightmares, way in which a person thinks about could influence occurrence state trait as well depression. Nightmares, subset characterized by high distress negative tone, were particular interest, they can significantly impact person's well-being contribute anxiety also examined possible recent stress, sleep-related disturbances such insomnia, difficulty falling asleep, nocturnal awakenings. A national online survey using Qualtrics forms utilized collect data. involved 431 participants (124 males). All completed DQ scale, questionnaire with three-factor structure: dream recall, nightmare distress, meaning; STAI Form Y1-Y2 BDI-II. Overall, results suggests that nightmares is associated higher levels increased intensity both state trait anxiety. Additionally, findings indicate depression more severe individuals experiencing frequent awakenings during night. Even stable anxious traits an individual appear be intense frequency linked overexertion, Interestingly, memory related level stress experienced individuals, those tending recall their often. Present clear clinical significance providing insight into treatment opportunities. Future studies should aim utilize representative sample, different psychiatric populations various sleep disorders, further these associations.
